Update on the Domain
The Kerikeri Domain Working Group kindly provided an update, as at 4 August 2021:
Over the last 6-months we have been finalising our detailed plans for the revitalisation of the Kerikeri Domain. These plans have been developed with input from the community and key stakeholders such as yourselves, and our local contractors. It is with great excitement that we can advise that construction will get underway very soon and continue over the coming months; starting with the decommissioning and demolition of the existing skate park and basketball court, and a new vehicle access point from Cobham Road. Please refer to the FNDC construction letter below for further details on what to expect over the coming months.
Starting from next week, (week commencing 9 August 2021) signage and fencing will be going up onsite in preparation for the demolition. The first task is to decommission the existing skate ramps so these can be stored and preserved. It is expected these spaces will take five months to complete. We recognise that this will mean the court and skate park will be unavailable for a little while – but we hope it will be worth the wait. Check out the attached skate park concept, designed by local skateboarder, Dave Crabb.
The construction teams will be working as quickly and safely as possible to get these spaces done and opened back up for the community. Shortly, we will also be able to share detailed plans for the new play space and the landscaping and perimeter pathway design, including lighting and associated facilities such as drinking fountains. The Domain will remain open while works are underway, however certain sections will be closed off to safely secure construction areas.
Thank you for your contributions and patience over the past months.
