“Leadership is an action, not a position.”

What is a charitable trust?

Our Kerikeri formed a registered charitable trust (the Our Kerikeri Community Charitable Trust) to provide transparency, accountability and the ability to access resources, such as funding, to meet the vision and goals set out by the community.

To qualify as a charity, an organisation has to provide a benefit to the public which is very similar to what has been accepted as charitable by the courts. A charitable trust is a way of holding and protecting assets. The assets are managed according to the purpose set out in the trust deed.

Part of this formation required the appointment of key roles such as chair, treasurer and secretary, for example.

Governance of the trust

Meet the Board. This team meet monthly to discuss the strategic direction of the trust, burning issues, opportunities and get an update on projects. The Leadership Group and members of the public are welcome to attend and can request attendance by email notification.

Leadership Group

Working alongside the Board is the voluntary leadership group, made up of people who are passionate about one or more of the four wellbeings and/or are committed to managing projects. The Leadership Group is open to any member of the public and with the option to be a temporary member or ongoing.
